We believe that in India and many other developing countries, urbanisation and westernisation and associated decline in physical activity, increased consumption of salt and calorie dense foods, obesity especially trucal obesity, metabolic syndrome, and stress are important risk factors for hypertension. Prevention of these lifestyles risk factors and novel management techniques especially for stress should be developed that are suitable for this country.
